Anatomy and physiology were united in one institute when the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University was founded in Berlin in the year 1810.

The first full professor undefinedCarl Asmus Rudolphi undefined(died in 1832) was especially interested in comparative anatomy, nevertheless he was considered by his contemporaries as being very liberally thinking. He warned to use philosophy without any criticism when studying nature, and he supported exact research.
